v24.6.1.1

All right, first update since I posted this game! At this point the page is probably still private, so thanks for being here.

We're still a long ways away from this looking anything like a roguelike or a monster catcher, but I already want to start getting feedback for UI and creature ideas.

The goal is to have a game where you have to go on a journey towards being the champion of the league, but each run is randomized so the attributes and moves of each monster you come across are always changing. I also want this game to be moddable so people can add their own creatures (wink wink) and other content as we add functionality to the game. For now, all we can do is test battles, but I'm pretty happy the randomizer, and turn-based combat are done.

New features

  • Window sizes: You can now resize the window in the desktop version! For now, 5 different sizes are available. The default game window size changed from 1152:648 to 960:540 in both platforms.
  • Fullscreen mode: Available in both versions!
  • Look at me!: The opponents now face the player.
  • Progress report: game build version now shows in the bottom-right corner of the screen
  • UI overhaul: Things are better positioned in the screen

Bugs squashed

  • Re-starting the game without typing in a seed no longer sends you to the same battle you were just in
  • Ending a battle with passive damage no longer pops up the turn menu as if the battle was still going on
  • Multiple fixes regarding the battle log (note: this will still get updated a lot before this even resembles a game and a lot of bugs can still be found if you pay attention to the text box)

Roadmap

The main goal is to have this become a full game in whatever form I can. I'm taking all feedback to heart and I still don't know what the game is going to look like. However, there are some things I already know I'm going to do, and currently this is what these objectives look like:

  • Add basic animations for attacks and status moves
  • Do away with moves that don't have any visible effects
  • Reach 50 different available moves
  • Make battles go indefinitely until you die
  • Add a tracker that displays information about your current creature like stats and moves
  • Implement some sort of resource management (mana bar, power points, item slots etc)
