v24.6.15.1: Resource management added!


A quick weekend update in between other things I've been doing: last update was awesome, but it broke the game if a unit was affected with certain statuses. I sat down to fix this and ended up implementing mana bars. Whilst I know I had promised a longer cycle and reworking the UI, I didn't want to leave the game in a broken state, which would hamper my will to share the game with more people. Thus, I'm sneaking in a late Saturday update.</h1>

New features

  • Manage your resources: Creatures now spend mana equal to the move's tier and recover 2 mana per turn. If you pick a move but don't have enough mana for it, your turn is skipped. Mana costs are now indicated under the moves' names.

Bugs squashed

  • The game now properly waits for status messages before and after an attack lands
  • Statuses that deal damage to the affected unit after they receive attacks (such as Madness) no longer freeze the game
  • The critical hit text is no longer displayed before the damage is displayed
  • Poisoned units no longer get a burn message displayed

Known bugs

  • Multhit moves only proc on-hit effects once.
  • Some status effects cause messages to appear on the screen even if the unit dies before they have any effect.

Roadmap update

With this update I actually managed to tick a roadmap item off the list in adding a resource management system! 🎉

This is what the roadmap looks like at the moment:

  • End-of-battle rewards: Coming up next!
  • Add tooltips explaining moves.
  • Add a compendium of moves and creatures seen to the main screen.
  • Add default attack and damage taken animations
  • Create environment art.
  • Update UI font & base colors.
